Health Centre

The Health Centre’s aims:

  • The Health Centre is a place where students can seek medical care and talk to someone.
  • The Health Centre can provide treatment by prescribing medication or first aid in an emergency.
  • It operates as part a network and can refer students to specialised health professionals or clinics.

Preventive medicine

The University Service for Preventive Medicine and Health Awareness (SUMPPS) is a team of doctors, nurses, psychologists and secretaries.

It is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Routine medical screening appointments:
    • This medical check-up is mandatory in accordance with the Decree of 7 October 2008:
      • by invitation for students beginning university;
      • on request (by appointment).
    • For all Paris 8 University students seeking advice, information, a medical certificate (scholarships, honorary loans, aptitude or inability to perform physical and sports activities, travelling abroad, work, vaccinations).
    • For students with disabilities: medical certificates for extra time allowances and different kinds of advice on course adaptation, different types of assistance offered in conjunction with the University’s Disability Service.
  • Information – Prevention – Health awareness campaigns on campus.
  • Information on key public health issues: nutrition, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and addictions (tobacco, alcohol, drugs).
  • Sexual health (contraception, STIs).
  • Nutritional advice (by appointment).
  • Family planning centre (in partnership with the General Council).
  • Counselling services (by appointment).
  • Free gynaecological appointments (by appointment).
  • Couples and family counselling appointments (support groups sessions on the first Friday of every month).
  • Smoking cessation services (by appointment).
  • Free first aid training (by appointment).
  • Vaccination and screening for tuberculosis (in partnership with the Conseil général) with optional serological testing.
  • Free blood tests and optional serological tests (HIV, hepatitis) carried out once/twice a month (dates posted or provided over the telephone).
