French as a Foreign Language (FLE)


The Department of Communication and French as a Foreign Language (COM/FLE) at Paris 8 University offers classes in French as a Foreign Language all year round as well as an intensive course twice a year, to give international exchange students all the assistance they need.

Please bear in mind that complete beginners will not be accepted on the intensive course.

Classes

Courses comprises classes in:

  • French language and culture for international students studying at Paris 8 University
  • Writing and oral presentation skills classes for French-speaking and international students (MEEO)
  • Study and research skills improvement classes in French

Intensive Course

This intensive course is open to ERASMUS students and all international exchange students. It is organised by the Department of Communication/French as a Foreign Language - COM/FLE (run by Nicole Blondeau and Ferroudja Allouache). The course is provided free of charge, and runs for two weeks each semester before the start of term (September and February).

Course aims:

  • To introduce and integrate international exchange students into the university
  • To improve the language skills, cultural and social knowledge of the university and host country

Course structure:

Classes are held in the morning.

Excursions are organised in the afternoon.

These are organised by the teaching staff, students of the DDLE Master’s (Master’s in Foreign and Second Language Teaching) or by doctoral students. Language students visit the covered passages of Paris and learn about their history; Amélie Poulain’s Montmartre; the “Je t’aime” wall; the vineyard and iconic sites of Montmartre; Sentier/Montorgueil/rue Saint-Denis district; a visit to the Musée du Barreau de Paris (private museum; visits on request only) that retraces the legal history of France through historical trials with explanations provided a former lawyer famous for his knowledge and lecture style; Ménilmontant and its different waves of immigration; Paris’ islands; the salons of the Hôtel de Ville (groups only; booking required); the Bercy district; the Coulée Verte city trail; the Mouzaia district (19th district); Butte aux Cailles (13th district); and many more places.
