With 60,000 students, Seine-Saint-Denis is the second biggest university centre in the Île-de-France region.

In 2008, Paris 8 University and the Conseil général de Seine-Saint-Denis signed a partnership agreement governing the many projects carried out by the two institutions, particularly in relation to local development and student life.
