UR QUARTZ (QUARTZ Research Unit)

The scientific research carried out by Supméca is developed in its own laboratory, the LISMMA, resulting from the unification of Supméca’s various historical research teams and the integration of two research teams in 2009 from Paris 8 University (IUT Montreuil and IUT Tremblay). With its history of leading industrial R&D projects, the founding members of LISMMA are now taking a more scientific approach while maintaining strong connections with a constantly changing industrial environment. This host research team works on multiple sites, hosted by Supméca at Saint-Ouen and Toulon and by Paris 8 University at the two Institutes of Technology (IUT) in Montreuil and Tremblay.

The unique nature of LISMMA’s research policy lies in the fact that the laboratory consistently and collaboratively addresses three strongly interconnected scientific themes, in line with the scientific needs identified by industrialists seeking innovation:

  • Systems (complex, mechanical, mechatronics, energetics, products, etc.)
  • Materials and the use of materials in systems (metals, composite materials, etc.)
  • Engineering processes (design, production, usage, maintenance, etc.)

All while taking into account their lifecycle and also focusing on activities, such as:

  • Modelling e.g. the structural and behavioural modelling of systems and their materials, and process modelling
  • Experimentation for the identification and characterisation of behaviours with a view to modelling and/or recalibrating models, using system integration benches and demonstrator programmes
  • Simulation using models taken from modelling and experimental activities with possible feedback on these activities depending on results

Internal teams:

  • Digital engineering:
    • Industrial systems (MGSI group): Modelling and engineering
    • Complex systems (COSI group): Design and optimisation
    • Mechatronic systems (Mechatronics group): Systems engineering, multi-physics and multi-domain modelling
    • Geometric systems (Geometry group): Declarative modelling
    • Products (EOP group): Eco-design and optimisation
  • Tribology and Material with sub-themes:
    • Material fatigue
    • Micro-geometry and contact physics
    • Thermomechanical behaviours of materials
  • Vibro-Acoustics and Structures (VAST) with sub-themes:
    • Acoustic insulation of assembled structures
    • Sound waves and energy trapping in poro-granular metamaterials
    • Structural vibration and smart materials
