Île-de-France

Île-de-France is one of the world’s leading destinations for higher education and a major contributor to its economic development and influence.

With seventeen universities and a host of engineering, business, management, art and medical schools, the region has a student population of over 600,000, a number which has doubled since the early 1970s.

This growth represents an opportunity, but there is still much to be done to improve support for students, living conditions and academic success in a socially diverse student population that has almost doubled in thirty years. Alongside the government, the Conseil Régional is closely involved in higher education, and forges strong bonds between this area and its research and innovation activities.
