Standard rental

Various public organisations, private businesses and associations offer rental accommodation and advice:

CROUS Créteil student flat listings

LOKAVIZ, the central office for student accommodation in Île-de-France, can help you find accommodation: 17,000 student accommodation listings (in student halls, cités U) managed by the Centres régionaux des œuvres universitaires d’Ile-de-France (CROUS Créteil, CROUS Paris and CROUS Versailles) and 6,000 private accommodation listings. Use LOKAVIZ to check what accommodation is available in real time and search for listings near your campus.

No fees apply but once you have been put in touch with the landlord, standard rental procedures apply.

The LOKAVIZ label

Every year, the CNOUS and CROUS networks help around 60,000 students find affordable private accommodation.

At the start of the 2011-2012 academic year, the network launched their own accommodation label. Why did we launch the LokaviZ accommodation label? To give students peace of mind with regard to finding suitable trustworthy accommodation. It allows landlords to list their properties through a centre specialising in student accommodation managed by CROUS.

This label offers landlords the following advantages:

  • being affiliated with a recognised network (CROUS) in the student housing sector
  • having their property posted on the CROUS student accommodation portal
  • receiving information about how to prepare a rental risk guarantee dossier (GRL - garantie du risque)

In order to qualify for this label, landlords must complete a self-assessment questionnaire (link to the questionnaire). This questionnaire is designed to quickly check if the accommodation meets the required standard.

This CROUS label is based on four key areas:

  • quality, assessed in accordance with the statutory criteria for decent housing, and the building’s energy performance rating
  • rental price, charges and any services provided
  • compliance with good practices in terms of landlord/tenant relations
  • location i.e. taking into account its proximity to higher education institutions and sports/cultural facilities, and commuting times by public transport or bicycle

Visale scheme (formerly “Clé - Caution Locative Étudiante du Crous”)

If you are renting standard (i.e. non-university) accommodation, CROUS can also offer you support. The CROUS-LokaviZ Caution Locative Étudiante (Clé) scheme has been renamed Visale d’Action Logement; it is a free scheme that should not be treated as a substitute for home insurance for your apartment, which is required by law before you can move into your accommodation. The Visale principle remains the same as former scheme i.e. it guarantees the payment of rent and charges in the event of non-payment. Visit the Visale website for information about the Visale scheme and the registration requirements.
